Whether it is a vague sense of dissatisfaction or a specific part of life that makes you feel stuck, it can be hard to know where to start to make meaningful, lasting change. My approach to coaching is to help you gain a better understanding of what it is you desire...what is influencing that and why it matters to you. As we work together, energy builds and details come into focus. Curiosity and enthusiasm fuel the process as you discover the steps that will lead you to the happiness, satisfaction, healing, or change that you seek.
Who I support…
I work with a wide range of individuals who have a sense that they are ready for change and would like a partner on that journey. Some know what that change is. Some feel pulled in a yet-to-be-defined direction. I coach people who:
Are on the edge of a new time in their life and struggling to find a way forward
Are ready to initiate a major transition such as a career change
Want to develop a personal practice for enhanced well-being
Want a clearer sense of their life’s purpose and/or how to live in alignment with that purpose
Want to reignite a passion or interest that has been dormant
These are just a few examples. Each person’s life and circumstances are unique. If you are wondering if my approach to coaching may be helpful, contact me and we will explore this. Please keep in mind that coaching is not a substitution for therapy. Although a clinical mental health counselor by training, I do not practice therapy in coaching. My approach to coaching blends many aspects (see below for more details) and at times may resemble counseling if you have beliefs that hold you back or patterns that do not serve you. Rather than look at these from a deficit angle, we look at you as a whole person and build upon your strengths, interests, and skills. If you are uncertain about whether your needs are better suited for therapy or coaching, I can help you discern that.
Jennifer Jacobs (MA Counseling Psychology, Adventure-based Therapy Concentration; RYT-200; Board Certified Coach) weaves together elements of Positive Psychology, Solution-Focused Coaching, and Mindfulness to help people get “unstuck” in a way that is true and meaningful for them. Her experience as a mental health counselor, business consultant, and mentor informs her work as a life coach. The element that she likes most about coaching (from these other roles) is truly partnering with her clients on their journey (rather than providing expert guidance).
Jennifer listens deeply, asks powerful questions, and nurtures growth. She brings a compassionate, inquisitive, holistic approach to each client. Witnessing, and being a part of, someone discovering their own power and the possibilities that awaken from that is an incredibly rewarding aspect of her work.
Her career has been a winding road that keeps leading her to roles where she supports others on their own journeys. Her work is also influenced by “extra-curricular activities” such as practicing and teaching yoga, gardening, meditation, and adventures outdoors. Kind of a living, breathing counselor/coach stereotype, but that’s what brings her peace and taps into her creativity! Jennifer sees all of these experiences, in and out of her professional path, as invaluable to her work as a life coach.
